M/V "Vogesailor"

In recent months we carried out a change of propeller bushing on a large bulk carrier afloat. The two main reasons for not going to dry dock were availability and costs. The method used by Crosscomar was trimming the vessel until the centre of the propeller shaft was about a metre over sea level. Afterwards the propeller was released and left hanging under the stern of the vessel. Later the intermediate shaft was removed, propeller shaft drawn into the engine room. During this whole operation both stern shaft seal boxes were carefully removed for renewal of the seals if necessary, the propeller shaft bushing taken out and a new bushing was machined and fitted. Then everything was re-assembled and alignment tests were carried out together with test run of main engine.
